Asberry Stinnett (1842 - 1861)

Asberry Stinnett was a son of Alexander and Elmina (Ball) Stinnett.

Asberry was returning home from the mill where he had been to have corn ground for the family. He encountered Confederate soldiers and he tried to escape. They shot and wounded him. He hid among the underbrush and rocks near the swimming hold on Dunn's creek. The family later found him, but he died a short time later. He is thought to be the first person buried in Stinnett Cemetery.
