Larry's mother was a daughter of Amanda Shirk Vourron (1878 - 1937), which is how he ties in to the Shirk line.
The Schurch / Shirk family originated in Bern, Switzerland. Some of the family immigrated to the United States, originally settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They stayed there for many years, eventually heading West, in to Ohio, Indiana and states beyond.
Larry's Shirk line is Amanda, daughter of Jacob K. Shirk (1852 - 1881), son of Samuel M. Shirk (1824 - 1903), son of Samuel E. Shirk (1785 - 1864), son of Ulrich Shirk III (1751 - 1842), son of Ulrich Shirk II (1704 - 1763), son of Ulrich Shirk I (1663 - 1749), son of Peter Schurch (1639 - 1709), son of Ulrich Schurch (1614 - 1643), son of Caspar Schurch (1585 - ?), son of Hans Schurch.
We were very fortunate that my mother-in-law kept so many documents and records of her mother's family, which made it easy for us to tie into other branches of the Shirk family tree. Larry also had his dna tested, which resulted in more Shirk cousins being connected to the family!
Anything specifically having to do with the Shirk family -- along with information and photos shared by other Shirk / Schurch / Sherrick family members are displayed here.
This album is dedicated to Marie Martha Vourron Murray, my mother-in-law, who shared so much of her family history with me and made it possible for us to share this part of her family history with the rest of you!
