The property is now known as 1053 Rocky Flats Road and 1059 Rocky Flats Road, Cosby, TN. I think the part where the domes have been built is 1053, and is owned by Glamp LLC. The part where the house is -- now known as The Lodge at Dunns Creek -- is 1059 and is owned by Gem Rae, LLC.

My Mom says that Papaw's father, Benjamin Richard Maddron, owned about 100 acres in this area. At some point, he divided that property between Papaw and his sister Harriett Maddron Webb (married to Clayton Webb). It seems the families moved from house to house. He also owned the house above this house, but across the street. Mom remembers the Henry Barnes family living there. I remember when Gladys Harrell Hollifield was living there.

Mom remembers at one time her Grandpa Ben was living in that house, while they were living the small house above the house we're researching. Mom spent some time with her Grandpa, but when Mamaw found her there, Mom got the switch all the way home!

My Mom tells me that Papaw and Mamaw were living in the house when she was born in February, 1939. The road used to run in front of the house instead of on the other side of the creek. The day she was born, Papaw had to ride the mule to go and get the midwife. They had to cross the creek on the mule and were both soaked when they arrived back at the house.

But when Geneva was born in 1942, they were living in the house "above" what is now known as Papaw and Mamaw's house. At that time, Papaw's sister Harriett Maddron Webb was living in the house with her family. I actually found them in the 1940 census. Papaw's mother was living there with Harriett, her husband and children. Papaw and Mamaw were in the house next to them.

Records I've seen say the house was built in 1948. That may have been when additions started being built to the house? Mom thinks Harriett and Clawton Webb added the kitchen, but Papaw and Mamaw added the bedroom on the right side of the house. The addition on the back was built in the late '60s or early '70s?

Mom remembers the family packing furniture into a wagon and walking down the road to the big log cabin where they lived for several years. She remembers Geneva being an infant, but she (Mom) was walking down the road with the rest of the family. Geneva was born in 1942 and Mom was born in 1939, so that move may have taken place around 1943?

Mom tells me that Clawton and Harriett Webb lived in the house until after Harriett died in 1952. Clawton died in 1954. Did Papaw and Mamaw move back to the house after that?

The Lodge claims the original part of the house is a cabin which was built in 1816. I'm curious how they were able to determine that?

If anyone has photos of the house, or more information -- or is I have anything wrong here -- please let me know!

If you click on a photo, it will bring it up in larger format. And there is additional information posted with some of the photos, which is only visible if you click on the photo.
